Welcome to the Australasian Military Medicine Association (AMMA). 

AMMA welcomes new members.  As per the current Constitution, there are three categories that new members may choose from:

  1. Full Members: Any person who, in the opinion of the council, has a suitable tertiary qualification or who has significant standing or experience in the field of Military Medicine and who has completed the application procedure as set out in these rules shall be admitted to the association as full members.
  2. Associate Members: Any person who has a genuine interest in military medicine or any related field, and who is not qualified to join under any other membership category, may be elected as an associate member. Associate members shall have no voting rights nor shall they be admitted to the council. In all other matters associate members may partake of the association’s activities.
  3. Student Members: Any person who is undertaking a course of studies that will, when completed, in the opinion of the council, qualify that person to be a full member of the association may be elected as a student member.

AMMA members receive the Journal of Military and Veterans’ Health (JMVH) – published four times per year. In an effort to reduce our paper consumption, we are now offering e-copies of the Journal of Military and Veterans’ Health instead of hard-copies.

The Journal of Military and Veterans’ Health is the official journal of the Australasian Military Medicine Association. It is a peer reviewed journal dedicated to supporting the publication of research and information on military medicine and veterans’ health, recognising that the impact of military service translates into health effects on military personnel long after they retire.  It provides and promotes information for those health professionals who are working in, researching or have an interest in the unique facets of medicine and health of military personnel and veterans.

AMMA Membership Terms & Conditions Updated 4 May 2020 Payment & Subscription AMMA agrees to supply membership entitlements to you, the Applicant, and agrees to confer on you the membership rights in accordance with our rules upon admission in consideration of you agreeing to pay the required subscription and complying with the Constitution. If you do not pay your subscription by the due date: • Your membership rights are liable to be terminated; and • The membership services will be suspended until payment in full is received. AMMA does not refund or reimburse any portion of a subscription in advance. The Joining Fee is a once off administration charge and is not refundable. Re-admission to membership must be within 3 months of resignation or termination or the membership will be considered a new member and may incur a full Joining Fee. Membership of AMMA is on an individual basis and is not transferrable. Membership will be extended automatically for successive 12 month terms unless you send us written notice of intent to resign the membership at least 30 days before the end of the membership. Membership Entitlements The range of membership services current at the date of this application is set out at www.amma.asn.au AMMA may suspend, vary or withdraw any of these services without notice. Membership / Cessation / Resignation / Termination Members cease their membership only by giving us written notice. A resignation is effective no earlier than the date the written notice is received by AMMA and if no date is specified in the notice, no later than a fortnight after receipt. Memberships are terminated 90 days after the member becomes unfinancial. Terminated members are considered to be new members are will incur a new member joining fee. If we are unable to locate you and subscriptions are overdue, we may notify you of cancellation of your membership by writing to your last recorded registered address or email address as deemed appropriate. Change of Owner Details You must promptly notify us in writing of changes to your details, registered address or billing address (es) or principal contact details since changes may impact upon your employer obligations and our ability to deliver your membership services. Privacy Please note that the information you provide on this form is “personal information” pursuant to the Privacy Act 1988 (“the Act”). This information is being collected for the purposes of processing your application, to provide you with membership services and to keep you informed of upcoming events. The intended recipient of this information will be AMMA and its service providers. Please note that the provision of this information by you is voluntary. You have the right of access to, and alteration of, personal information concerning yourself held by the AMMA in accordance with the Act. The information is being collected and will be held by AMMA and their secretariat provider, Leishman Associates. Membership 1. Membership is activated when we receive from you a completed application form and payment. A receipt will be issued upon receipt of payment for a full twelve (12) month subscription or part thereof as agreed. 2. Membership is for one (1) year commencing on the 1st of July for a period of 12 months. 3. Membership will be extended automatically for successive 12 month terms unless you send us written notice you do not want it renewed at least 30 days before the end of the membership. 4. All membership fees must be paid annually in advance. 5. An invoice will be sent to you before your membership renewal date which is payable prior to your renewal date for membership fees paid annually. 6. Membership may be suspended or terminated if your payment is not received within (90) days of the membership renewal date. 7. There is no refund of any membership fees should you cancel your membership at any stage during your membership year. 8. Changes to membership fees will only be made at the time of annual renewal of your membership. 9. We reserve the right to change, from time to time, the services available to members. 10. Those people who apply in the last six months before annual subscription is due will have their first annual fee deemed to cover the period until the subsequent annual fee is due. Disclaimer In relation to the provision of membership services: • we exclude all implied conditions and warranties, except those of which the exclusion would contravene any statute or cause any part of these terms and conditions to be void; • our liability is limited to providing you with the services again.

Remember to make the most of your membership!  As an AMMA member, you are entitled to:

  • Discounted registration fee for the annual conference;
  • Discounted registration fees for the educational workshop series;
  • A hard copy of the Journal of Military & Veterans' Health;
  • Apply for a $20,000 or $10,000 research grant;
  • Listen/watch recordings of keynote presentations from previous conferences (accessible via your member login);
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting and help shape the future of your Association; and
  • Nominate yourself to become an AMMA Director.

There are also nine Conference Scholarships available annually across three different categories, as well as the annual Photo Competition and an increasing number of Podcasts available to listen to.
