CALL FOR ABSTRACTS





We invite abstracts for the 33rd Australasian Brachytherapy Group Annual Scientific Meeting 2024.

We are seeking exciting, innovative and creative presentations on all aspects of brachytherapy. Calling for presenters from all brachytherapy professional streams and experience levels.

Abstract Categories

Submit your abstract under one of the following categories:

  • Original Research - Present your team’s research and clinical results.
  • Case Study/Series - A new category introduced in 2023 aimed at encouraging participation from a wider range of brachytherapy professionals, with a more step-by-step, teaching style of presentation. Suitable for interesting/unusual clinical presentations, challenging implants/dosimetry, learning opportunities and step-by-step planning tutorials.


Presentation Types

Oral presentations will be prioritised. However, if more abstract submissions are received than presentation slots available in the scientific program, the remaining abstracts will be selected for poster presentation.


Registration

All presenting authors (oral and poster) must register and pay to attend the Meeting. Please register by 6 December if your abstract is accepted. 

 

Submission Notification

Acknowledgement of receipt of all abstract submissions will be made by email. Notification of abstract acceptance will also be sent from the organisers on behalf of the Committee via email. 

 

Word Counts and Limits

  • Biography of presenting author – limited to 100 words.
  • Abstract title – limited to 25 words.
  • Abstract text – limited to 400 words including acknowledgements.
  • Images – maximum file size of each image is 500 KB. The maximum pixel size of the graph/image is 600(w) x 800(h) pixel. You may upload images in JPG, GIF or PNG format.

 

Original Research Abstract Requirements

Original Research abstracts require specific headings and should clearly state:

  • Background
  • Aims
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusion

 

Case Study/Series Abstract Requirements

Case Study/Series abstracts are free-form and do not require specific headings. They should however describe the following:

  • Presenting history
  • Brachytherapy implant technique
  • Applicator type
  • Planning & optimisation methods
  • Final dosimetry
  • Clinical outcomes if available
  • Clinical reasoning/decision-making for the above
  • Challenges/learning experiences/what you would do differently next time

 

Guidelines for Submission

  • Word counts and limits must be adhered to. 
  • Submissions must be made in English. 
  • The presenting author agrees to register for the conference no later than 18 November 2023.
  • Use only standard abbreviations. Place special or unusual abbreviations in parentheses after the full word the first time it appears.
  • Use generic names of drugs. The presentation must be balanced and contain no commercial promotional content.
  • Submissions may not contain patient names, hospital ID numbers or other identifying information.

 

Selection Criteria

Abstract selection will be based on clarity, scientific rigor, significance, relevance, interest in the topic chosen, innovation and usefulness. The Committee has the right to refuse or accept any submission, accept the submission as a poster or an oral presentation and allocate the paper to a different category than the one under which it was submitted.

 

Declaration

Abstracts will not be successfully submitted unless the submitter agrees the the below terms:  

  1. During abstract submission you will be asked to confirm that you agree to the following:
  2. I confirm that I previewed this abstract and that all information is correct. I accept that the content of this abstract cannot be modified or corrected after final submission.
  3. Submission of the abstract constitutes the consent of all authors to publication (e.g. Conference website, programs, other promotions, etc.) In case an image/picture is included in the submission of the abstract, it constitutes the consent for publication.
  4. The Abstract Submitter warrants and represents that no part of the information and content provided by them (Hereafter: the “Content“) to ABG 2024 and Leishman Associates  (Hereafter: the “Organisers“), nor the publication of any such Content by the Organisers, on the internet or otherwise infringes any third party rights, including but not limited to privacy rights and/or intellectual property rights.
  5. The Abstract Submitter grants the Organisers a copyright license to reproduce, publish, translate, distribute, and display the text of the Content on a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable nonexclusive basis.
  6. The Abstract Submitter grants the Organisers a copyright license to publish the presentation slides on the Australasian Brachytherapy Group website (www.abg.org.au) membership portal.
  7. I herewith confirm that the contact details saved in this system are those of the presenting author, who will be notified about the status of the abstract. The presenting author is responsible for informing the other authors about the status of the abstract. The submitting author may request to be copied on abstract correspondence.
  8. I understand that the presenting author must be a registered participant.
  9. The Organisers reserve the right to remove from publication and/or presentation an abstract which does not comply with the above.
