GETTING TO WOLLONGONG

Flying into Wollongong

No official carrier has been nominated for the workshop due to competitive airfares available via the internet.  There is an airport at Wollongong and depending on where you depart from, you may be able to arrange a direct flight through Virgin Australia, Qantas, Jetstar and Tigerair airlines - times may be limited however.  Otherwise, you will need to travel to fly to Sydney and then make travel arrangements to Wollongong.   

Sydney Airport

Sydney International Airport is the main gateway to Wollongong, located 110 kilometres from Wollongong and will take approximately 90 minutes to travel there via car or public transport.   There are a few options to get to and from the airport to the city. 

Illawarra Airport

Illawarra Regional Airport is located at Airport Road off the Princes Highway, Albion Park Rail. Albion Park Rail is a suburb of Shellharbour City, which forms part of the Illawarra Region. The Airport is located just over 20 minutes south of Wollongong. 

Public Transport

Train
Sydney Trains operates a regular timetable to Wollongong from Sydney on its South Coast and Southern Highlands Lines. If travelling from the domestic or international airports catch a train on the airport line to Wolli Creek Station. Disembark and board the next South Coast Line train to Wollongong. This journey will take approximately 90 minutes from Wolli Creek Station. For information on fare and timetables please click here  

Bus Services
South Coast Journeys operates a minibus service that runs from Sydney Airport to Wollongong.  The bus will depart from the designated bus area, between terminal 2 and 3.  For full details or to book, click here.  

Drive
Take the Grand Pacific Drive and experience coastal rainforests, quaint seaside villages and the 665 metre Sea Cliff Bridge all on your way into Wollongong. Alternatively you can jump on the M1 Motorway from Sydney and be here in 80 minutes. You decide! If travelling from Canberra, the journey is an easy 250 kilometres via the Hume Highway. Getting around Wollongong

The Gong Shuttle Service is free transport service.  This service travels in clockwise and anticlockwise loops connecting UOW to the city, the beach and the Innovation Campus.  Hours of operation are: 

- Weekdays: 07:00 - 18:00 every 10 minutes, and from 18:00 - 22:00 every 20 minutes
- Saturdays: 08:00 - 18:00 every 20 minutes
- Sundays & Public Holidays: 09:40 - 17:20 up to every 20 minutes
